About you

There are around 456,000 aged care workers in Australia. They work in residential aged care, home care and home support programs, multipurpose services and in National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care.

These roles include nurses, support staff, medical practitioners, personal care workers, and allied health professionals and assistants.

Everyone who works in primary care and aged care has an important role to play in providing high-quality palliative care. There are key palliative care skills and competencies that are common to everyone working in aged care. However, care providers can have different roles and responsibilities.

In our care provider pages we have brought together relevant palliative care resources from within ELDAC and from other national programs for the different groups who support older people in aged care. The resources can help you increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of palliative care and ability to communicate with older people and their families.
